**What Are the Implications of Artificial Intelligence; a Utopia or an Apocalypse** Back in 2006 I read a book called **The Singularity is Near** by a futurist called Ray Kurzweil. His prediction was that machine intelligence will be infinitely more powerful than all human intelligence combined and the singularity is the point at which machines' intelligence and humans would merge. He predicted this date to be 2045. I thought this was so speculative. Since that time we have had the films **I Robot** and **The Matrix** which presented a rather dystopian future of machine driven (quasi AI) existence. And for those who love plays we cannot forget RUR which was a visionary work of fiction that introduced the word robot. More recently we have seen IBM’s Watson winning Jeopardy which showcased advanced natural language processing and the release of ChatGPT and Claude (AI) which launched a new era of generative AI and large language models (LLM).
