Originally conceived to tell the story of the intersect of Jews and Christians, West Side Story morphed into the reimagining of Romeo and Juliet. This tragic story follows Tony and Maria - two young lovers caught between rival gangs in New York City. Their story unfolds with passion and urgency in a world divided by fear, prejudice, and the search for belonging. Created by Jewish artists Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Arthur Laurents and Jerome Robbins, the musical reflects a deep understanding of the immigrant experience and what it means to be an outsider.
