Spooks and Speculations: Evil

“There can be no good without evil, no light without darkness.”

Sounds intuitive, but what is that ancient idiom really saying?

We’ll start with a short warm-up exploring what evil means to us, then ask whether pain, suffering, struggle, and the possibility of wrongdoing are necessary for a meaningful world.

* Could love, happiness, and growth exist without suffering?

* Does meaningful freedom require the possibility of harm?

* Could individual struggles contribute something valuable to a larger, shared consciousness?

* If you could design a better world, how much darkness would you leave in it?

Join us for an October meeting of thought experiments and open discussion. No philosophy background required, just curiosity.
