Obsession

I have always been obsessed with the pursuit of intellectual truth, to the point where it impacts practicality.

In college I read Nietzsche (not that I understood it), skipped 50% of classes, changed my major 4 times, and spent my nights debating various political and philosophical issues with my friends (during some of these debates, we may not have been entirely sober).

One of the things I did learn from Nietzsche was the idea of deconstruction, or taking ideas apart to see whether they really make sense. And, surprise surprise, a lot of times they don't. And once you get the dopamine hit of watching a whole intellectual house of cards fall in on itself due to poor construction, you are addicted.

This search for truth is an obsession because it serves no practical purpose. To be honest, life would have been so much easier if I just didn't give a hoot. However, my search for truth is driven by eros, not by practical concerns.
