Over the decades, however, the NEPA process has grown increasingly complex, leading policymakers and practitioners to seek ways to make environmental reviews more timely, effective, and responsive to changing national priorities.

Recent administrations have introduced significant changes to NEPA policy and implementation, and the landscape continues to evolve.
