Why we picked it
We will be heading to the Barrie blood donor clinic on Saturday, July 25th. Donors and people coming to give moral support are welcome. The more the merrier. Afterwards, we will have lunch at Cheer's Bar & Grill, across the street. It has been many years since we have last done a blood drive. Feel free to ask questions you may have. [Giving blood can save up to 3 lives](https://www.blood.ca/en/blood/donating-blood/new-donor/why-give). It is often used for major surgeries, other medical procedures, cancer treatments and more. It also speeds up recovery time. A person living with thalassemia could need blood every two to five weeks, and a person living with leukemia may need blood from up to 8 donors every week. The need for blood had been stable for years. But in [2024, the need for blood donations has gone up](https://www.blood.ca/en/about-us/media/newsroom/rapid-growth-demand-blood-products-could-cause-national-supply-dwindle). So we are doing a blood donor drive. [Humanist Canada
