A particular neighbourhood may make us feel at home, a city may make us feel alive, and a quiet street, a river, or a forest may make us feel at peace. Yet another place, perhaps not so different on the surface, can make us feel completely different. Why do we feel this way about places? What is it that we are responding to in a place, and what does it say about us? Why are we drawn to certain neighbourhoods, landscapes, cities, or spaces? Why might one person seek the energy and spontaneity of downtown, while another longs for the quiet of the suburbs, the presence of nature, or the familiarity of being close to family?
