Why we picked it
This version of the GPSO began in 2015 and the GPYO began in 2022. Both groups feature the best wind and string players in the community at their respective levels. Grande Prairie is fortunate in having a school orchestra program and skilled teachers directing that program who perform in this concert. This concert features the Youth Orchestra along with the Symphony Orchestra performing Benjamin Britten’s A Simple Symphony. Two concertos are featured: Roshana Jahnert playing Mendelssohn’s Concerto No. 1 in G Minor and Glen Kilian playing Concertino for Clarinet by Carl Maria von Weber. Other selections include Dvorak's Symphony no. 9 (New World), The Sound of Music, Light Calvary Overture, Music from Apollo 13, and Cortege from Mlada by Rimsky-Korsakov.
