So, what has been holding us back? Why the delay and why the denial? The fossil fuel industries have known from the 1980s the dangerous consequences of their products. Exxon Mobil had internal and highly secretive reports compiled over 25 years ago ominously predicting a serious rise in CO2 and methane gases causing atmospheric disruptions especially in the tropical regions.
